Things to do in York

In York there are two different beaches as seen in the photos above. When you first arrive in York the first thing you’ll see is long sand beach. Long sands as in the name is 1.3 miles (2.1 km) long. During the day as you drive by you’ll see a lot of people at long sands because of all the space there is.

Now if you take a trip to the other side of town you’ll find short sands. Short sands is quarter-mile-long sandy pocket beach tucked between rocky cliffs in the village of York Beach. Even with short sands not being that big you can still find a lot of people there depending on when you go.

While your at short sands beach your’e right in the heart of York and there’s many different things to do. If your’e right on the beach and you want to have some fun or you don’t want to deal with your children anymore go over to FUN O RAMA or BOWLING (candlepin bowling).

FUN O RAMA is an arcade filled with many different arcade games from sky-ball all the way to the more modern ones. All you need is a few dollars to trade in for quarters and then your’e set to play. No matter how old you it’s fun for the whole family.

Even if it does say BOWLING on the outside it’s definitely not the kind of bowling you’re thinking of. This fun bowling alley is for a style of bowling called candlepin bowling. Candlepin bowling is very different from normal bowling, in candlepin bowling, you are throwing a cannonball-sized ball at pins that are very skinny.

Here in downtown York, is where most of the fun is. From downtown, you can do so much from shopping, eating, heading to the beach, and even going to an amusement park. Downtown can get supper busy and there’s a lot of people going around and this is where you’re able to get to know the locals.

One of my favorite things you can do besides shopping downtown is going to a restaurant called Goldenrod where you’re able to watch them make salt water taffy and it’s so memorizing. I remember as a kid I would be so excited to go see the taffy machine it was always my favorite and it still is.

Staying downtown there’s one more thing you can do. Once it gets dark out you can go on a ghost tour. The tour takes you around downtown York and some residential areas while you learn not only some history of the town but also some scary stories. The whole time the tour guide is making it so fun and you forget that you’re on a ghost tour, the other best part of this tour it’s kid-friendly.

The last fun thing you can do downtown is head to the amusement park. The amusement park is a fun place for all ages, with not only rides and games for all ages there’s also a zoo that adds even more fun. If you do want to go to the amusement park the best time to go is mid June through August since in early June it’s considered there off season since there aren’t that many tourists.
